Question in the past i have been building exclusively overlay face frame cabinets but lately i have been getting some inset door jobs.

Assembled face frames are only grain and color matched on the faces.
The bottom rail is almost always 1 1 4 to 1 1 2 inches in width.
Face frames on sides of kitchen cabinets should overlap 1 4 in.
Inset cabinets are made with framed boxes each cabinet box has a 1 5 inch wide face frame.
Custom front frame configurations are available.
Build the face frame so that the bottom rail rails are horizontal boards and stiles are vertical boards projects 1 16 in.
Frameless cabinets would be just the cabinet box and the hinge mounting plates then attach to the cabiinet side walls.

Create unique cabinets within our rta cabinet program by deleting the standard frame doors drawer fronts and then ordering a custom configured face frame which snaps right on the cabinet.

For the overlay doors i have been making all perimeter rails and stiles 1 3 4 inches and all middle stile and rails at 2 1 4 inches so i end up with 1 1 4 inch of all of the stiles and rails exposed with my 1 2 inch overlay doors.
If you are using euro hinges you will need a 1 2 overlay hinge with the ff adapter plate.
3 4 thick solid wood face frames with 1 1 2 wide stiles and rails unless otherwise specified.
Center or divider rails typically measure 2.
I use the edge sander to size the door.
Standard stile rail dimensions for face frames is 1 1 2.
I repeat this until the shims slip in snug.
All natural wood characteristics are acceptable on the inside edges.
The doors are installed flush with the frame hence the term inset visually when you look at an inset kitchen you will see a frame around between the doors and drawers.

So when the doors overlay the face frame by 1 2 on each opening it also leaves a nice 1 2 gap between the doors and drawer fronts and allows you to see a fair amoun of.
