The door interlock is commonly known as a door lock.
How does a washing machine door lock work.
Tie the end of the string in a knot once it s completely wrapped around the door.
Washing machines have a bi metal strip inside the door lock which is heated by ptc heater resister when live and neutral are activated on to the pcts it heats up and bends the bi metal strip which then moves the arm to activate the common terminal and push a pin into the closed door to lock it in place.
So one of the connections goes to mains hot and to one side of the heater wire on the bi metallic switch.
When you shut the door the latch on the door pushes inside the door lock and activates an electrical part inside which locks the door shut.
Sometimes a lose handle can t trigger the lock to open because it isn t connected to it.
The switch is of the bi metallic type and works as it heats up when the door is closed and the water level or start switch is activated and so the parts inside move to lock the door.
